• Beckham has yet to conquer America with his kicks and charms, but he does hope to: the midfielder says he’s considering finishing his pro career in the U.S. with a Major League Soccer team. This move could dovetail nicely with his career plans after hanging up his cleats; he already has a soccer academy in Los Angeles.

• He recently admitted he suffers from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, one of the more useful mental illnesses.

• David and wife Victoria recently purchased a state-of-the-art wheelchair for a 5-year-old girl who suffers from cerebral palsy.

• Spanish officials advised the Beckham's not to christen their third child Cruz. Naming a boy with a traditional girls name is illegal in Spain!

• Beckham was the hero of Parminder Nagra's character Jesminder 'Jess' Kaur Bhamra in the 2002 movie 'Bend It Like Beckham'. Nagra now stars in 'ER', the hit hospital TV drama. The movie was also introduced Keira Knightley to the masses.

• In 2004, Becks had a Power Ranking of 22 in Forbes' Top 100 celebrities. By 2006, his Power Ranking had fallen to number 43 with an estimated $27 million in endorsements and pay. That's still a lot of earning potential.

• Becks is a top earning soccer star thanks to his off field endorsements which have included Police sunglasses, Brylcreem, Marks and Spencer, Vodafone, Pepsi, Gillette, milk, Motorola and of course Adidas.
  

• Becks received a $50,000 M3Power razor encrusted with two rows of 4.5 carat white diamonds and one row of extremely rare green diamonds with a solid white-gold tip from Gillette for Fathers' Day. Becks was delighted, amazed and touched to be given the personalised razor.
  

• Becks sports a Hebrew tattoo on his left arm which reads "I am my beloved's and my beloved is mine". Unfortunately, scholars of the language have pointed out that the character used for 'beloved' is not unisex in Hebrew and is generally used as a term of endearment for a man not a woman. Poor Victoria!

• More new Adidas boots for Becks in this World Cup campaign. The Predator Absolute Lion is part of the exclusive David Beckham range. It has five lions on each boot to represent the other 10 players in his team. It retails at £200 per pair. If Becks lifts the World Cup this year, expect your children to be demanding these magic boots.

• Smell it like Beckham: His own fragrance brand is launched to coincide with the World Cup by Coty Inc.

• Beckham may be heading for one of the Major League Soccer teams Los Angeles Galaxy or New York Red Bulls where he'll inject glamour and glitz into the league. He would follow in the footsteps of previous great soccer superstars like Pele and Beckenbauer also played for Cosmos in North American Soccer League at the end of their careers.
  

• Becks is still a top earner despite a poor performance overall in the World Cup. His continuing endorsements will earn him a cool £10 million by the time they end between 2008 and 2010.
  

• A very poor overall show by England in the World Cup and an exit once again in the quarter finals could be blamed on a mix of reasons:

- Sven's complete lack of any sensible decision making, tactics, etc.;
- top class footballers not being able to deliver despite their outrageously large pay checks (e.g. Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard, Wayne Rooney, and sadly, Becks himself);
- some stupidity (stamping's not big and it's not clever);
- some injuries (e.g. Rio Ferdinand, Gary Neville, Wayne Rooney, Michael Owen, and of course Becks himself too);

• With Michael Owen seriously injured from the World Cup and looking like he is going to be out of domestic football for the rest of next season, rumours are rife that Newcastle United have approached Real Madrid for Beckham. Such rumours have been fuelled by Victoria photographed emerging from the same swanky London hotel Claridges, as The Magpies chairman. Becks' agent has strongly denied that Posh and Freddy Shepherd were meeting and a "Newcastle United source" (whoever that be) has joined in the denials. Real Madrid also claim that Beckham is very important to the club and are in no hurry to get rid of him.
